Local businesses and organizations will take part in PARK(ing) Day by transforming metered parking spaces within two locations in Brownsville’s Main Street District:(1) E. Washington Street (between E. 13th Street and E. 14th Street); and(2) 14th Street Plaza, E. Washington Street and E. 14th Street.
Participating entities include: the City of Brownsville Parks & Recreation Department; the Brownsville Public Library System; Keep Brownsville Beautiful; the Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Committee; the Brownsville Historical Association; Brownsville Wellness Coalition; Community Development Corporation of Brownsville; Gladys Porter Zoo; The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley; Carlotta K. Petrina Cultural Central; B & E Art Studio; and The Kraken Lounge.

PARK(ing) Day began in 2005 when Rebar, a San Francisco art and design studio, converted a single metered parking space into a temporary public park in downtown San Francisco. Since 2005, PARK(ing) Day has evolved into a global movement, with organizations and individuals creating new forms of temporary public space in urban contexts around the world.
