WHAT:

The City of Brownsville Public Health & Wellness Department and Office of Emergency Management & Homeland Security in partnership with the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS), Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM), Cameron County Office of Emergency Management  and the Cameron County Department of Health and Human Services (CCDHHS) will conduct mosquito source reduction outreach citywide from Monday, August 14 –17, 2017 to educate residents on the importance of mosquito source reduction in the community. Source reduction is one of the most effective mosquito control techniques available and is accomplished by eliminating mosquito breeding sites.

The City of Brownsville Public Health & Wellness Department and the Office of Emergency Management & Homeland Security continue to work with TDSHS and CCDHHS to address vector control activities in the area, including mosquito trapping and spraying throughout the city.

“We urge the community to aid in our efforts to increase mosquito awareness and prevention,” said Brownsville Public Health & Wellness Director Art Rodriguez. “Brownsville residents can make a huge impact by taking preventative measures against mosquitos as August and September signal the peak mosquito season in our region.”

“Together we can work to reduce mosquito habitats in our backyards,” said Brownsville Office of Emergency Management & Homeland Security Director Odee Leal. “Residents can report standing water and other mosquito-related risks to 546-HELP (4357) to submit a work-order and help make our community a safer place.”
